Costa Coffee Donates A Day's Profits

On the 14th June Costa Coffee donated a Days profits to their charity The Costa Foundation.

The Costa Foundation was set up back in 2006, to assist the country from where they acquire their coffee beans from.

The Foundation, launched in 2007, will implement programmes to improve the social and economic welfare within these communities.

Education is a key focus of the Foundation. In 2007/8 we are building, improving and maintaining schools within four coffee-growing communities in Colombia, Ethiopia and Uganda. This is already making a big difference in regions where children have a 3-hour walk to school, or have no access to clean water.

In addition to building schools, in Colombia, we have also invested in a nutrition programme to develop land for crop growing. This programme educates farmers and their families about better nutrition, and provides them with food.

And in Ethiopia we are providing a library, complete with reference books alongside the new high school we are building and furnishing.

And in Uganda we have also improved the sanitation and provided water harvesting facilities.

So help Costa Coffe raise funds by either popping into Costa for a Coffee break or you can donate directly to our Costa Foundation donation page here .

Premier Travel Inn's £150,000.00 fundraiser "Purple Hair Day"

Premier Inn’s first ever Purple Hair Day has reached hair-raising heights by raising an incredible £150,000 for their chosen charity, Hospitality Action.

On the 26th February, 10,000 Premier Inn team members up and down the country donned purple wigs or dyed their hair to help make Purple Hair Day a huge success. Staff nationwide embraced their charitable side with various hair-brained events, including a sponsored car wash, balloon race and bag packing at a local supermarket to raise money.

Premier Inn, the UK’s biggest and fastest growing hotel brand, plan to make the day an annual event as the purple pound supports Hospitality Action. Hospitality Action works to assist those affiliated with the hospitality industry, be they individuals, their families, the young and the old, who find themselves in a crisis.

Paul Flaum, Chief Operating Officer Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, says: “Purple Hair Day was brilliant - all our team members worked incredibly hard to make the day great fun for our guests and all those involved. Hospitality Action is an extremely worthwhile charity and to be able to give something back to those in the hospitality industry is fantastic.”
